The County Cricket 2021 Thread
Snow showers this week can only mean one thing - County Cricket is back.

First year of the new County Championship format - three seeded groups of six teams, playing each other twice. Top two progress to Division One, second two to D2, bottom two to D3. Teams in each division then play four games (against the teams they weren’t in the initial group with) - winner of D1 gets the CC trophy, and the top two of D1 go to Lord’s for the Bob Willis Trophy Final.

Then of course we have the T20 Blast and One Day Cup later on. Plus that Hundred nonsense.

And to appease those who wonder what this has to do with West Ham, here’s a video of our very own Tomas Soucek wishing Essex good luck for the season: https://twitter.com/essexcricket/status/1380080437343703040?s=21

t20 competition now at the quarter final stage .... and the county one day cup starts this Thursday

Just as THE HUNDRED takes a bunch of players away

Good finish to the t20's
Labuschagne 78 off 47 with 6 sixes
Short 69 off 30 with 5 sixes
Josh Inglis 118no off 61 with 8 sixes

Taking players away from counties mid-game is fucking ridiculous

Re: The County Cricket 2021 Thread
Unfortunately Robinson is in self isolation along with a number of other Sussex players after coming into contact with someone who tested positive.

Sven Roeder 3:37 Tue Jul 6
Re: The County Cricket 2021 Thread
Robinson is now cleared to play
8 match ban of which 5 are suspended for two years & a fine of £3,200.

Now thats clear they can move on with dealing with Jos Buttler & Eoin Morgan's racist remarks.
For more experienced players you'd expect a substantially heavier penalty.

Re: The County Cricket 2021 Thread
Clarke, Hales and Robinson are all effectively banned (COVID implications or not). Yet Stokes captains the side.

It isn’t acceptable and in a work place would result in legal proceedings.

The continued ignorance of Sam Hain is beyond bewildering.

Hain averages 60 in List A cricket with a SR of 86. Kohli (widely acknowledged as the greatest ever one day batsman) averages 58 with a SR of 93.

While Lawrence averages 27 with a SR of 89 and Crawley averages 35 with a SR of 73.

We won’t even get into John Simpson.

I know there were more positive tests but interesting that the entire squad have been designated close contacts unlike the Scottish football squad where NOONE was a close contact.

Need to come out and admit that HALES has been blackballed forever at the insistence of the Irishman.

Should have played an under 23 side.

Re: The County Cricket 2021 Thread
John Simpson?
Zak Crawley?
Dan Lawrence?

Is this the worst ODI squad ever assembled?

Where is Alex Hales? Where is Sam Hain?

No Buttler, Bairstow, Roy, Root, Morgan, Archer, Banton, Clarke, Wood, Woakes, Ali, Rashid, Garton, Pope, Jordan, Curran x 2, Willey, Robinson, Billings, Dawson, Livingstone, Hales or Hain.

Won’t even be an England C team playing.

Re: The County Cricket 2021 Thread
stewie is right, we are unlikely to see players taking 1,000 First class wickets again.
Seems 216 bowlers have done it and Andrew Caddick in 2005 was the last pace bowler to do it.

The game has changed .... there used to be a LOT more First class cricket (in England) and a lot fewer Tests.
About 50 odd players have played 100+ Tests and most are from the recent generation .... Colin Cowdrey is the only one who started in the 50's and Boycott & Clive Lloyd the only ones who started in the 60's.

But First class wickets .....1,000 means you only have 515 to catch Eddie Hemmings. Some others on the list ....Derek Underwood took 2,465 & Wilfred Rhodes 4,204.
WG Grace took 2,809

*epitome

since 2010, playing in all conditions, he has 469 wickets at an average of 24

The conditions bowler argument is approximately 11 years out of date.
Tough to figure out obviously, but when you only tour somewhere once every 4 years, your average will be somewhat skewed by an adverse, or exceptionally good, performance

Adam VOGES averages 63 in test cricket. One of the all time greats!

Yes, a grand total of 34 at a strike rate of 66 in India and a grand total of 22 at a strike rate of 59 in UAE.

Compared to 387 at a strike rate of 51 in English swinging conditions (for reference his strike rate in Australia is a whooping 72).

The man has talent at what he does best, but is the epitomy of a swinging conditions bully.

average in UAE = 20
average in India - 29

In summary: takes wickets on flattest pitches in the world

Re: The County Cricket 2021 Thread
From ESPNCricinfo: "In home Tests, only Muttiah Muralitharan has taken more wickets than Anderson's 384".

From howstat.com: average in Australia = 35; average in South Africa = 34; average in Sri Lanka = 33; average in New Zealand = 32.

In summary: swinging conditions bully.

Turns out the only Kent batsman able to stand up to 38 year old Jimmy Anderson was 45 year old Darren Stevens.
